چکیده

OBJECTIVE This study examined whether an ultraviolet light enhanced the whitening efficacy of a peroxide gel containing a photo-Fenton activator. METHODOLOGY Fifty subjects were enrolled into the trial at two geographically separate sites. As directed by the randomization keys, teeth of half of the study subjects were concurrently exposed to the whitening lamp, while the gel was on their teeth, for a total light exposure of 45 minutes. The other half of the subjects received no light treatment. At each examination, clinical data were collected on the gingival index, shade score, and self-assessed dentinal hypersensitivity. RESULTS Changes in tooth shade were significantly better (approximately 26% improvement; p < 0.05) for subjects exposed to the gel and dental whitening lamp (average = 7.7 shade changes) compared to subjects exposed to the gel only (average 6.1 shades) immediately after treatment. No reports of erythema, desquamation, ulceration of soft tissues, gross changes in teeth, gingiva, or restorations were documented. The relative changes in mean sensitivity scores were similar for both groups, with no significant differences between the Light and No-light groups at any interval. CONCLUSION The whitening effect was improved by approximately 26% when the Zoom2 dental whitening lamp was used. It was demonstrated that the a photo-Fenton activator used with a bleaching light and 20% hydrogen peroxide gel is safe and effective for whitening teeth rapidly.

Light augments tooth whitening with peroxide.

BACKGROUND The authors tested the adjunctive use of light with a 15 percent peroxide gel as a single-visit, in-office tooth whitening system. METHODS Subject (N = 87) with stained (> shade D4, Vita Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, Germany) anterior teeth were randomly assigned to test (peroxide and light), peroxide control (peroxide gel) or light control (placebo gel and light) groups and were trea...

Clinical and Spectrophotometric Evaluation of LED and Laser Activated Teeth Bleaching

BACKGROUND Auxiliary power sources (LED and laser) are used in in-office teeth bleaching techniques to accelerate the redox reaction of the whitening gel to increase ease of use, to improve comfort and safety, and to decrease the procedure time. OBJECTIVE The aim this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the teeth whitening procedures performed with hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide,...

Vital tooth whitening with a novel hydrogen peroxide strip system: design, kinetics, and clinical response.

For many years, at-home whitening has been used with great success and produces some of the most satisfying results of all dental procedures. Historically, the most common procedure used was a custom-fabricated tray loaded with a 10% carbamide peroxide gel that was worn overnight. Today, many manufacturers offer higher concentrations (15% and 20% carbamide peroxide) for faster results. Regardle...

Influence of Whitening Gel Application Protocol on Dental Color Change

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the influence of different whitening protocols on the efficacy of 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP) tooth whitening and gel pH and concentration. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighty-four enamel/dentin discs from bovine incisors were used. The baseline color was measured with a spectrophotometer. Two sessions of in-office whitening with 35% HP were performed under different protocols: ...
